the Estate Planning Council of Westchester County, Inc.!
We are a nonprofit organization which promotes the exchange of ideas and information among estate planning professionals. Our organization consists of Professional Groups of certified public accountants, attorneys-at-law, trust officers, chartered life underwriters and certified financial planners. Our new Associate Member Group allows those that are (i) actively and substantially engaged in the estate planning process and/or (ii) working toward certification into a designated Professional Group to join. Our members either reside or have a place of business in Westchester County, New York.
The Estate Planning Council concept came into being over 70 years ago. The Westchester Council dates back to 1967 when a group of like minded professionals decided that there was enough interest in Westchester County to form a council. Many of these pioneers are still active members today – see the Past Presidents from the early years.
The reasons for forming Estate Planning Councils are to enable people who work as estate planning professionals to get to know each other and to become educated about nuances and concepts of estate planning together so they can work as a team to better serve their clients.
The Team Concept of Estate Planning is the unique ingredient. There is a natural tendency to be wary of the recommendations of a person one does not know, and a reluctance to discuss ideas and exchange information with a stranger. In the past there was often a lack of respect and cooperation between the disciplines of Estate Planners. By bringing team members together, Estate Planning Councils have greatly improved the professionalism and cooperation in the Estate Planning community.
At our quarterly dinner meetings we offer educational and networking opportunities through presentations from industry leaders about planning techniques, current laws and shared experiences pertaining to the many disciplines of estate planning. Our meetings provide the opportunity to visit with friends and establish new relationships.
Our two breakfast meetings and one lunch meeting are for members only (guests will be accommodated if space permits) in a seminar setting with a maximum capacity of thirty-five attendees. The Estate Planning Council of Westchester County, Inc. is a member of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils (NAEPC). Our partnership with the NAEPC provides members with new services and opportunities, as well as, providing information on other estate planning councils and their members throughout the country.
