Planning After the 2020 Election - Where Are We Now?

About the Topic:

With the 2020 Congressional and Presidential elections in the rearview mirror, clients have a clearer picture of what may be on the horizon. Or do they? What planning should advisors bring to their clients to evaluate? What legislative changes or regulatory changes can be expected? Could there be another round of economic stimulus? Many unanswered questions will come into focus.

About the Speakers:

Steve Radke, J.D.
Vice President of Government Relations
Northwestern Mutual

Steven M. Radke is Vice President of Government Relations and leads the company’s lobbying and public policy formation efforts. He has held this position since June of 2010. He and his Government Relations colleagues help foster Northwestern Mutual’s success by working to defeat legislative and regulatory proposals that would adversely impact its products, distribution, or the company, and by advocating for proposals that create greater opportunity for effective financial security planning. This work takes place at international, federal, state and local levels.

Radke is one of the company’s main liaisons with industry groups such as the American Council (ACLI), the National Association of Financial Advisors (NAIFA), and Finseca (formerly AALU-GAMA). He also chairs the company’s Public Policy Committee. In addition to prioritizing legislative and regulatory issues, this committee monitors and analyzes public policy trends and makes recommendations to the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team regarding how the company can anticipate and adjust to these trends in order to more effectively achieve our business goals or to actively participate in the public policy dialogue.

Radke joined Northwestern Mutual in 1994 and has worked in Government Relations his entire tenure with the company. Prior to joining Northwestern, Steve worked in the DC office of Congressman Jerry Kleczka and also managed one of Kleczka’s re-election campaigns. He earned his bachelor’s and law degrees from Marquette University, and he also holds a masters degree from Georgetown University.

He is currently Chairman of the Wisconsin Policy Forum, a Milwaukee non-profit research institution that studies a variety of public policy issues, and is a member of the Board of Visitors for the Les Aspin Center for Government at Marquette University.
